THE HIVE | SUMMER RESIDENCY

In Summer 2018 I was one of the 18 artists from the 70+ studios at The Koppel Project, Hive invited to create inside the gallery for visitors to experience creation first hand.

Dryad

A tree nymph or spirit

Normally considered very shy creatures except around the goddess Artemis, who was a friend to most nymphs.

It was a short residence in the month of August at the projects’s Chancery Lane gallery space that resulted in a show. Here is the gallery’s link to it.

Having more space to explore I swiftly expanded into a hanging piece. Employing a process of embroidery and the use of natural and recycled materials, I’ve connected to the spirit of a tree - a Dryad. The approach was a new and exciting experience, where I birthed a silhouette of a nymph on the backdrop of the vintage handwoven linen often utilized in my fashion label.

Based on places of power within the body or chakras I ‘ve used seaweed, shells, yellow coral brought over from the Caribbean, wires found on the seashore, and other recycled circular elements to create zones or vortexes of structural flow within an interconnected system.
