Family Politics
‘Family Politics’ is one of those understated artworks that actually mean a lot to me personally as a daughter of divorced parents. The amount of pain their separation caused and the internal work that I had to go through was monumental.
My mother used to be an avid knitter, hence how to began our brand. To find more about that head here. During my last visit in November 2021, I picked up a vintage knitting book published in 1958 in Russia. It teaches one how to knit that to be honest I find complicated, but I love looking at the loop drawing so one day whilst flipping through the pages I found this diagram of loops and it so clearly reminded me of human bodies the ones so often used in art books that teach you how to draw a human. This was perfect.
I see the human on the left in Blue as my dad, who was never good enough for my Red raging mom. My dad was more passive, he was happy with his lot, when my mother never wanted to marry him is shown angry and driven.
Me, their only offspring is coloured in Green. They say the memory of all that generational trauma can be erased and purified by meditation and that is really the biggest tool to brake the patterns and cycles we find ourselves dwelling in.
